Tiny washed piece only

A tiny washed piece of apple skin is usually okay, but cats do not need it.

Call if symptoms appear

Call your veterinarian if your cat ate apple seeds, a large amount of peel, moldy fruit, or develops choking, repeated vomiting, or pain.

Remove the unsafe parts

The core, seeds, and stem are the parts to keep away from cats.

Keep the piece thin

A thin piece is easier to chew than a long strip of peel.

Offer it safely

  • Wash the apple well and cut one tiny, thin piece of skin with a little flesh attached.
  • Remove the core, seeds, stem, stickers, waxy debris, and any bruised or moldy parts.

Skip these versions

  • Apple seeds, cores, stems, large strips of peel, dried apple chips, sweetened apple snacks, cinnamon sugar, caramel, and pesticides.
  • Apple skin for cats with vomiting, diarrhea, diabetes, dental pain, or prescription diets unless your veterinarian approves.

Watch

  • Vomiting, diarrhea, gagging, choking, drooling, appetite changes, or belly discomfort.

Portion

One small thin piece is enough.
