Can Cats Eat Watermelon? Seedless Tiny Pieces Only
Seedless tiny piece only
A tiny seedless, rind-free watermelon piece is usually okay, but cats do not need fruit.
WatermelonCall for choking or large amounts
Call your veterinarian if your cat ate rind, many seeds, a large amount, or develops choking, repeated vomiting, or pain.
Rind is not part of it
The tough rind is harder to chew and digest than soft red flesh.
Tiny means tiny
A cat-sized piece should be much smaller than a human fruit snack.
Remove rind and seeds
- Remove rind and seeds, then offer one tiny cube of plain red flesh.
- Use no salt, sugar, syrup, fruit salad, alcohol, dairy, or seasoning.
Avoid fruit bowls
- Rind, black seeds, large pieces, salted watermelon, fruit salad, sweetened watermelon, frozen chunks that are hard to chew, and frequent servings.
- Watermelon for cats with diabetes, obesity, digestive sensitivity, or prescription diets unless your veterinarian approves.
Watch
- Vomiting, diarrhea, choking, gas, appetite changes, or belly discomfort.
Portion
One tiny cube is enough.
