Can Cats Eat Lemon Balm? Tiny Plain Leaf Only
Tiny plain leaf only
A healthy cat can have a tiny plain lemon balm leaf, but cats do not need it.
Lemon BalmCall for oil, supplement, large amount, or symptoms
Call your veterinarian if your cat got lemon balm oil, a supplement product, a large amount, or repeated symptoms.
Fresh leaf only
A garden herb leaf and a concentrated oil or supplement are not the same exposure.
Do not force herbs
If your cat ignores lemon balm, that is a perfectly good answer. Complete cat food already covers the routine.
Use a tiny fresh leaf
- Use a washed fresh leaf only and tear off a tiny piece.
- Offer it plain, then stop if your cat is uninterested or has any stomach upset.
Avoid oils, teas, and supplements
- Essential oil, tinctures, capsules, teas, sweetened foods, dried blends with other herbs, and large handfuls of leaves.
- Lemon balm for cats on sedating medication, prescription diets, or with medical issues unless your veterinarian approves it.
Watch
- Vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, sleepiness, itchiness, poor appetite, or behavior that feels wrong.
Portion
One tiny torn leaf piece is enough for a test. Do not use human herbal products as cat treats.
