Can Cats Eat Tofu? Usually Skip It

Tiny plain cube only

Tofu is usually best skipped. A tiny plain cube may be tolerated by some cats, but it is not useful cat nutrition.

Call if symptoms appear

Call your veterinarian if the tofu dish included onion or garlic, or if repeated vomiting, diarrhea, pain, or lethargy occurs.

Sauce changes the answer

Soy sauce, garlic, onion, chili, and marinades are common tofu problems.

Meat treats are cleaner

A tiny piece of plain cooked chicken is usually a better cat treat.

Offer it plain

  • Use only plain tofu and offer one tiny cube at most.
  • Avoid soy sauce, marinades, salt, oil, chili, garlic, onion, fried tofu, and seasoned dishes.

Avoid seasoned tofu

  • Marinated tofu, fried tofu, tofu with soy sauce, teriyaki, garlic, onion, chili, sesame oil, heavy salt, and large portions.
  • Tofu for cats with soy sensitivity, digestive disease, pancreatitis risk, urinary diets, or prescription diets unless your veterinarian approves.

Watch

  • Vomiting, diarrhea, gas, itchiness, appetite changes, or belly discomfort.

Portion

One tiny cube is enough.
