Normal behavior differs by species and individual, so build a calm baseline before interpreting change.
Smooth exploration, ordinary tongue-flicking, stable basking, secure resting, and predictable feeding can indicate that the animal is using its environment normally. Compare the behavior with the time of day and recent care.
Freezing, fleeing, flattening, inflating, striking posture, tail displays, frantic climbing, or prolonged hiding can mean the animal wants distance. Pause interaction and check security, temperature, light, cover, and recent disturbance.
Body language cannot diagnose illness. Contact a reptile veterinarian when a meaningful change persists or comes with abnormal breathing, weakness, injury, weight loss, appetite change, swelling, or unusual waste.
